May Analyst of the Month - Deadline Extended

VCAN is pleased to announce that we are now accepting entries for the
May 2008 Analyst of the Month Contest. If you or a fellow analyst has
contributed something worthy of praise recently, please consider
submitting yourself (don't be shy!) or another analyst for an award. This is your
opportunity to highlight your best work or the work of a colleague and a
chance for recognition statewide.

Some suggested topics for submission include:
Crime bulletins - data sheets that were created for use by patrol and
detective divisions to aid in solving a crime series. This could
include crime pattern and suspect information, as well.
Crime and intelligence charts - all link charts, timelines,
flowcharts, and other investigative and intelligence based products. May
include cash flow, known associates, phone toll and undercover operations
analysis charts.
Crime maps - maps that represent a crime series or trend
Statistical/information reports - crime reports based daily, weekly,
or monthly, or reports that are a summation of a case in which crime
analysis was involved Intellectual concepts - ideas or processes that improve analysis or
the functions or use of analysis within an agency.

Please make sure you submit a summary of what the contribution was and
how it positively affected the nominee's agency. For example, don't just
send a report; rather, tell us why the report has made a difference or why
the contribution is significant to the agency or the field of crime
analysis.

If you have a product, please submit it along with the summary with
confidential information blacked out. The more information we have, the
more informed our vote. The contribution of the nominee must have been
made during the calendar year they are being nominated for (i.e. one can
be nominated for the April '08 award if the item submitted was completed in
Jan, Feb, Mar, or Apr '08) . A person can only be nominated for Analyst
of the Month once per month.

All submissions must be received on or before JUNE 6, 2008. Please
submit entries via email to analysis@roanokeva.gov with the subject 'Analyst of
the Month'. The Executive Board will vote on the winner and the winner
will be announced through the VCAN listserve by the 10th of each month.
All winners will receive a prize and an award certificate. At the Fall
Symposium, all monthly award winners will be up for Analyst of the Year.
The membership will choose Analyst of the Year awards and winners will
receive a paid VCAN membership for the coming year. Please note that
the monthly and annual nominees must be a member of VCAN in good standing.

Steve Hawthorne of the Portsmouth Police Department was the April 2008
Analyst of the Month. Check out www.vcan.org for more information on
Steve's success at his agency.

We look forward to receiving your submissions!
